A gabled second story on oxide-red steel struts.
A second story for a 1950s single-level house at Psomas Way and Maplewood Avenue. The compact gable sits over the existing west block on exposed steel struts painted oxide red, so the structure shows.
Dark standing-seam cladding wraps old and new into one silhouette. Along Maplewood the upper floor cuts back on an angle, holding the taller mass off the street so the original roofline still dominates from the neighbors. About 875 square feet above the existing footprint, within the R1V2 envelope, holds a primary suite with a sitting area and two balconies.
